Looking for romantic things to do in Barcelona, Spain?

This is a guest post by Tendelle Travel a la Tendelle.

Barcelona has to be one of the most romantic cities in Europe, if not the whole world. It is also one of the most beautiful places in Spain. Where to start? I can talk about its dark and itchy streets in the old quarters. Or I could fly to the beautiful panoramic views of the sea from the many points of interest in the city.

And let’s not forget the wonderful gastronomy that never fails even for the most demanding foodies. You can’t go wrong with Barcelona as a romantic getaway – your time in Barcelona with that special someone will be one to remember. These 7 romantic things to do in Barcelona will get your planning started.

Day trip to Catalan wine

Catalonia is home to many wine regions that produce amazing red and white wine, as well as Catalan sparkling wine, cava. Many of these wineries are located on the hills next to the sea, along the coast of Catalonia. From the vineyards, you can often get a great view of the sea. What’s more romantic than learning about winemaking, tasting quality wine, then picnicking in the vineyards with ocean views?

For a perfect half-day or full-day trip, Alella is a wine region that is an easy day trip from Barcelona, just 25 minutes by car or 1 hour by train and bus. At the prestigious Alta Alella winery, you can take a wine tour with wine tasting. At the neighboring winery Bouquet d’Alella, you can even have a picnic among the vines!

Magic Fountain of Montjuic

Although the Magic Fountain of Montjuic may seem a bit cliché and full of tourists, (like the famous places in the charming neighborhood of Gracia) it is definitely one of the most romantic places in Barcelona. Dare I even say, “magical”?

With the spectacular backdrop of the Palau Nacional, the large fountain in front of Montjuic mountain has a light and music show every Thursday-Saturday, and often in the summer (program here). The combination of music (always classic), light and water will leave you in awe. Stand too close to the fountain and you’ll get wet too – nothing like a sneaky kiss in the “rain” to turn the romance up a notch.

Lose yourself in El Born & Barrio Gotico

El Born and Barrio Gótico, in the central part of the city, are probably the most romantic areas of Barcelona. They are home to narrow and winding streets full of restaurants and tapas bars, each with its own flair.

At night, many famous buildings are also illuminated at night, such as the Catedral de Barcelona and the Palau de la Música Catalana, which adds to the mystery and romance of the old city.

Explore these areas, then sit on an outdoor terrace for some sangria or wine. Hang out together, share some tapas, and whisper sweet nothings in each other’s ears.

Old Theater

The Antique Theater located in El Born is, as it is called, the “old theater”. Unless you know, you will be looking for what is hidden behind the theater doors. Shaded by succulent plants, it is one of the most beautiful indoor terraces in Barcelona.

The Antic Teatre bar is perfect for a nice morning coffee or a romantic evening drink after a long day walking the city. True to its name, it is also a cultural center, so you can see theater shows here (although most programs will be in Catalan or Spanish).

PS: Going to Madrid next? Here is a great list of things to do there.

Ohla Hotel Rooftop Bar

The Rooftop Bar at Ohla Hotel is the most romantic bar in Barcelona. Right in the heart of Barrio Gótico, lovebirds can sit overlooking the rooftops of Gothic architecture while sipping cocktails. There’s even a rooftop pool for those who want to take a dip.

Go to the Beach at 4 am

When the weather is nice, Barcelona’s beaches are usually full of tourists during the day. But at night, the resort offers little relief from the throngs of tourists in the city. If you are parting typeyou can dance the night away in beach clubs like Opium Mar, CDLC, Pacha.

After a great night, you can head out to the beaches conveniently located outside the clubs and hit the beach with your honey. Perambulators, i.e. “remember beer” guys. Cerveza is Spanish for beer and these vendors are in business at all hours of the day on the beach. They will come and offer you a beer for one euro, but when they see couples canoodling, the script changes a little”beer remember remember Remember… Condoms?”

Hike to Tibidabo

Those who have been to Barcelona may wonder what the big white church is on the tallest mountain there. When lit up at night, it looks a bit like a Disney castle! It is, in fact, not only the church, the Temple of the Expiatori del Sagrat Cor, but it also marks the location of the Tibidabo amusement park.

You can go directly to the mountain and amusement park by public transport, or for active couples, you can walk there from Parc Guell (Vallcara Metro Station), climbing four kilometers. Once you climb the hill, you can spend the afternoon enjoying the best views of the city and get addicted to the adrenaline rush from the rides!

Extra Cultural Tip: Sant Jordi

Sant Jordi is the Catalan version of Valentine’s Day. And in my opinion, it’s more romantic than Valentine’s Day!

Sant Jordi falls on April 23rd annually, and it has a very romantic tradition: men give women a flower, and women give men a book. Love is in the air all over the city, not just for couples; On this day, Barcelona is full of street vendors selling flowers and books wherever you go. What a beautiful literary festival!
