“Either you walk the sun or the sun walks you.” Jim Rohn
It’s been years since I went out for this day of love. Maybe I need to change my mind and not be so squeamish this holiday, is it a holiday? I’ve found myself at times feeling like Valentine’s Day is an all-out assault on love, assaulting us all with pink hearts, red roses, and little naked cups shooting arrows at innocent passers-by. Leave me alone damn it! I drowned in red hearts.
What if Valentine’s Day was about all the love you’ve ever met? Loves that make your heart burn that you have memories of? I’ve been married three times, I’ve had more than that and I’ve known love. I had great crushes and some mediocre ones, but I still loved them. I loved my girlfriends, my work, my animals, my children, my parents, oh my grandchildren, all five!
When I start running the soundtrack, I see a lot of love around me. Why do I feel so bad about this Valentine’s Day? The idea of measuring someone’s love for you by how you ‘feel’ on Valentine’s Day seems wrong to me. Love is day by day, some days are not so rosy, some days are more romantic.
The sadness of this day is all mine. He didn’t do injustice to anyone this day. Yes, my husband sends me Valentine’s gifts and sends the same to his girlfriend, so who hasn’t? That was years ago, it was his choice, I was just one of many, even though we were married.
I’ve met a lot of love, including the man above. I go deep, and when I do, I love life. I have many exes that I still have a little love for; it always will. People who come and go from your life can still have a positive, measurable impact. Just because they’re gone doesn’t mean there’s love.
Can our hearts contain all the love we’ve ever had, that we’ve ever known? Maybe those loves have shaped us into the people we have become? All love questions are worth seeing.
My heart is full of love; My heart has known a lot of love. Because I was not afraid to give my heart to such great lessons. I wrote a book and shared my journey with others, hoping to pass on some of the relevant lessons.
With all that said, I wish everyone a Happy Valentine’s Day! I mean, I swear.
My mantra: “Love doesn’t stop, it grows.”
