A 10-year friendship is rare… Not everyone gets to have someone who knows them deeply and still picks them up every day, and that’s worth protecting. But I totally understand why most women said “tell her”. We all hope that one day our spouse will be our best friend. And what a perfect start to forever if they aren’t already… The idea that the love of your life was right under your nose all along? The story you tell at your wedding is the kind of story people will flock to hear. Some risks are worth taking, and the ones that can turn your favorite person into your forever person may be worth the most.
How to tell if your best friend likes you (before you confess):
Before you pour your heart out, look for the signs first. This is the tricky part, because if she hasn’t put you on her romantic radar yet, the signs may be borderline invisible. She’s not flirting with you, she’s just… your best friend.
Instead of just looking at her movement, widen the lens. Some of the best signs come from the people around her. Does her family speak positively, casually about you? Do they save you a seat, ask about you when you’re not there, or (holy people) openly joke that they wish you two were together? Families sometimes say the silent part out loud. Also notice who it returns to first. If you’re her first call for good news, bad news, and spirals, you’re already occupying the space that a friend usually does, and that’s what no one misses. Notice if it ever initiates plans, selects you over other options, and continues when it can exit.
And if you’ve looked for signs and you’re still not sure? That doesn’t mean it doesn’t. It just means you’re faced with a really scary decision, and if our Instagram community has taught me anything, it’s that scary decisions are often the ones that change everything.
