What does it mean to be honest about your relationship mistakes?
A mistake can be intentional or unintentional but the main thing is, it is wrong. It is a pattern of behavior that is either dishonest, unfair, or immoral and often offends another. In life and in relationships we make mistakes, the question is, what is our response when we make those mistakes. For some, the urge is to ignore their wrongdoings, make excuses, or worse, blame others. This is a form of self-deception and will cause a person to repeat the same relationship mistakes over and over again.
Recently in an interview, Shaquille O’Neal spoke openly about his last marriage and especially his mistakes. In the interview he was given the opportunity to reflect on the role he played in the failure and end of his marriage. Instead of ignoring his mistake, he bravely corrected the interviewer and shared the mistakes in his relationship that led to the collapse of his marriage. This showed maturity and a willingness to grow and improve.
It is our ability to be honest with God, ourselves, and with others that helps us heal from our past mistakes. How do we get there? How do we achieve this kind of loyalty, and avoid recurring headaches? If you want to live a happy life and maintain healthy relationships this is one experience you won’t want to miss.
